Chris Evans returns to Marvel for 'Avengers: Doomsday'

After a brief hiatus, Chris Evans is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for the much-anticipated 'Avengers: Doomsday.' Directed by the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, the new film promises to reunite fans with some of their favourite characters, as well as introduce new twists and multi-universe elements, confirmed Deadline. While the exact role Evans will play remains under wraps, Deadline reported that Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson will also return as Captain America, continuing his journey in the iconic mantle. It's speculated that Evans may not reprise his portrayal of Captain America directly, but there is still a possibility of him returning as Steve Rogers, the character he so famously embodied for nearly a decade in the MCU. Evans' last appearance as Steve Rogers was in 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019), which concluded his character's storyline with a heartfelt and heroic sendoff. However, recent developments have fans speculating about his return in some form. Evans also made a cameo appearance earlier this year in 'Deadpool & Wolverine', playing his earlier Marvel role as Johnny Storm from the 'Fantastic Four' films of the 2000s. As previously reported, 'Avengers: Doomsday' will feature multiple fan-favourite characters from the MCU, many of whom are original Avengers. Additionally, Robert Downey Jr. will return to the franchise, albeit in a completely different role, playing the iconic Marvel villain, Dr. Doom. The Russo Brothers, known for their work on 'Avengers: Infinity War', 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', and 'Captain America: Civil War', will be bringing their signature storytelling style to 'Avengers: Doomsday'. The film is expected to feature an ensemble cast, including the new 'Fantastic Four' cast members -- Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach -- who will join the Avengers in this multi-universe adventure. 'Avengers: Doomsday' is slated for release on May 1, 2026, followed by 'Avengers: Secret Wars' in May 2027, promising an exciting future for the MCU as it continues to explore new dimensions and crossovers between characters and universes. Ryan Reynolds says staying away from kids makes him "die inside" sometimers

Actor Ryan Reynolds shared how challenging to stay away from family and revealed whether he'd ever take more time away from his four kids as well as wife Blake Lively to make a fourth 'Deadpool' movie, reported People. "My feeling is that character works very well in two ways. One is scarcity and surprise," Reynolds said as he discussed the third installment, Deadpool & Wolverine, which came out this past summer. "It had been six years since the last one and part of the reason is that it swallows my whole life. You can't take your hand off the stick all the way through development, through postproduction into marketing and promo, and then you kind of [stop.]" As he thought about his kids daughters James, 9, Inez, 7, and Betty, 4, and son Olin, whom he welcomed in February 2023 -- Reynolds noted, "I don't ever want to be an absentee, and I don't ever want to miss stuff," reported People. "I, like, kind of die inside when I see their face and they have a competition or they have a sports thing or something and I missed it," he added, as per People. Ryan Reynolds is unlikely to host the Oscars 2025, but he is open to the possibility in the future, reported People. He opened up on the reports about him and Hugh Jackman as the choices for hosting the award ceremony. "No, I don't, historically speaking, that is a difficult job, you know," said Reynolds, adding, "We've had people that have come before us that did it flawlessly, I think, and you've had people who are so talented and just based on what's happening out there in the zeitgeist you're like, 'Oh, that was hard. It's a very hard job.' " "It would be a dream to do it one day. I'll say that," he added. "I'm really just spending the year writing a movie for myself, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy to do that is not Marvel, and that's kind of it." In July, Jimmy Kimmel had declined to host the ceremony for the fifth time. Comedian John Mulaney also declined the gig. In October, Reynolds and Jackman were in talks to host the ceremony. Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, and Dwayne Johnson had been approached as potential hosts, according to People. Jackman previously hosted the 81st Oscars back in 2009. He has also hosted the Tony Awards on four separate occasions. Meanwhile, Ryan and Hugh shared screen space in 'Deadpool & Wolverine'. The film showcases the immense popularity of the franchise and the star power of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The storyline kicks off with Wade Wilson, played by Reynolds, grappling with a mundane civilian life after hanging up his mercenary cape. However, when an existential crisis threatens his world, Wade must don the Deadpool persona once more, persuading a very reluctant Wolverine to join him on this chaotic adventure. Directed by Shawn Levy, the film features a stellar cast that includes returning favourites such as Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Jennifer Garner as Elektra. Jamie Foxx opens up on his 'mystery illness' in his comedy special

Jamie Foxx has now revealed facts about his six-month absence from the spotlight due to a health emergency in April 2023, as per The Hollywood Reporter. At the time, Foxx was hospitalized for an undisclosed medical complication, with few details shared since to explain what happened to the Oscar-winning actor. Foxx's Netflix comedy special, 'Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was...', has a greater bombshell than its title suggests. (He even received an early 2025 Golden Globe nomination for the special.) Foxx tells what occurred to him to the best of his recollection, using fun, music, and grim truths to be truthful about his treatment and rehabilitation process. For the show, he returned to Atlanta, where he became ill while filming the Netflix comedy Back in Action, which also stars Cameron Diaz. He also discloses that Atlanta is where he began his comic career in 1991. So he's returning back to basics, describing how he saved his life from death as a "come-back-to-God" moment. The special begins with videos of fans speculating about Foxx's illness. His daughter Corinne Foxx then takes the stage to thank the audience for coming. "This is a special moment for me and my family. It is a blessing to even be here," she says, before introducing her dad with a rousing, "Give it up for my dad, the real Jamie Motherfucking Foxx." The curtain rises and there is Foxx with shades on and hands in heart emojis over his chest expressing his love for the crowd, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "You have no idea how good this feels," he said as he basked at the moment, shouting "Atlanta, I'm back" and dancing between tears. "I was fighting for my life, but I'm here in front of you." When he said, "Atlanta, saved my life," the crowd responded to his "God is good" and "all the time." The exchange is a recognition of his Black, Southern roots and that he is right at home. Foxx further shared, "we still don't know what happened to me" just over six minutes into the special. Recounting what happened to him on April 11, 2023, he said, "What had happened was..." and described how it all began with a severe headache. "I don't remember 20 days," he said. His tale is sympathetic because the first doctor rejected his sickness. But his sister, Deidra Dixon, saw he wasn't himself and drove him around looking for hospitals until she chose to stop at Atlanta's Piedmont, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There, a doctor wearing an L.A. Lakers jersey let her know that her big brother was having a "brain bleed" that led to a stroke and that he needed immediate surgery. Jamie Foxx shared how his sister helped him, "Sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying" and he does just that as he alludes to dying and coming back. What he describes is harrowing. The doctor told his sister that he may make a full recovery from the stroke, but it's going to be the "worst year of his life." He says that's why he disappeared from public view and credits his family for protecting him during his recovery. On May 4, he woke up and found himself in a wheelchair and had no idea why, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Accepting his situation was difficult, as he admits to first allowing his ego to impede his significant improvement throughout his stay in Chicago.. "That's old man stuff," he says of learning how dire his condition was. He depicts the hard road ahead, while at first joking about wanting to keep his "pickle" private from his female nurse before finding out she had already been bathing him for a month and a half, and crediting a superwoman named Holly for coaching him, Karate Kid-style, to find his will to fight. He eventually saw a psychiatrist, which led to in-depth interactions with God. During that exchange, he stated it took him a minute to change his attitude and fight back. To do so, he used the only way he knew how to get well: humour. "If I can stay funny, I can stay alive" became his mantra. Leaning into his humour, he impersonates Denzel Washington, Dave Chappelle, Mike Tyson, Jay-Z and even President-elect Donald Trump. It's a unique blend of pop culture, old and new, to deliver a personal testimony of sickness and healing. Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was... is now streaming on Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Nicole Kidman reacts to her 20th Golden Globes nomination for 'Babygirl'

Actor Nicole Kidman has all the reasons to celebrate as she received her 20th Golden Globes nomination, in the Best Performance by Female Actor in Motion Picture (Drama) category for 'Babygirl'. She expressed her gratitude and urged the people to watch the film if they wanted a new experience. "I was relieved because we haven't released the film yet. You have no idea. Well, I mean, you do have an idea, but it's such a help, just in terms of creating attention, because we still haven't released it, so it's an extraordinary support. I'm so grateful. And I love Romy. I love the character," she said as per Deadline. She added if the nomination was a bit surprising for her, "It did, but after the reception in Venice, the Europeans really got it there, I was just hoping that it would translate to other territories. Since then, we've had it screened in the UK, in America, and Australia, and it's getting really great reactions, especially from young people. Which I love, because it's cross-generational, and that's something Halina really wanted. So just that it is being understood by all different types of people is what's fascinating. And exciting," she added. On talking about her much-anticipated project, she shared, "Because it's such a complex, beautiful role. The role, and the storytelling. It's entertaining, and it comes in a package. It's about an existential crisis, but it's told with humour and hopefully with a frisson and it vibes in such a particular way that it becomes accessible. So, as much as it's unusual and bold, I hope there's an accessibility to it. And it's got an awesome title. I mean, come on. But to be in every frame of the movie... I didn't quite realize what a risk it was. I do now, and I'm glad I didn't know when I set out to do it," reported Deadline. Reflecting on her experience of working with the film's director Halina Reijn, she shared, "I just love that she's so provocative. She's got such a distinct voice. She's classically trained, so she sort of reminds me of Baz Luhrmann in that way, where there's this classical training, an extraordinary understanding of opera, and theater, and music yet they both bring it into a very, very modern culture of filmmaking." In 'Babygirl', she plays Romy, a powerful CEO navigating a journey of self-discovery and sexual exploration. She shared details about the character, "We created it together. We'd experiment as we were going along. It was definitely written, but because Halina's a writer-director, it would constantly evolve, which was fantastic," as per Deadline. 'Babygirl', which debuts in theaters on December 25, has already sparked significant attention, earning Kidman the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival, and recently winning the National Board of Review's NBR Award for Best Actress. The film's narrative follows Romy, a high-powered CEO of a packaging company using an AI system she created. Though she seems to have it all, an attractive husband played by Antonio Banderas, two teenage daughters, and a luxurious lifestyle, Romy is struggling with her sense of self and her desires. She urged people to watch the film, "They haven't seen a film like it. If you want a new experience, go. Take your partner, or sit alone in there. You will definitely have a reaction. So if you want to be in a cinema with people, and go, "Oh, OK, I'm feeling something," this is the film to see," according to Deadline. The film is a reimagining of the erotic thriller genre, often dominated by male perspectives but told from the female gaze, an aspect that Kidman found particularly compelling. Reijn, known for her work as a filmmaker and producer, was inspired by the erotic thrillers of the 1980s and '90s, such as Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct. Rapper Jay-Z accused of raping a 13-year-old with Sean 'Diddy' Combs in 2000

Rapper and music mogul Jay-Z, whose real name is Sean Carter, has been accused of allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 alongside Sean "Diddy" Combs, according to Billboard. The allegations surfaced in a civil lawsuit filed on Sunday in New York federal court by attorney Tony Buzbee on behalf of an accuser Jane Doe. Jay-Z has strongly denied the claims, labeling them a "blackmail attempt." The lawsuit alleges that Combs and Carter drugged and assaulted the victim during an afterparty following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The plaintiff claims she was forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement and given a drink that made her feel "woozy" and "lightheaded" before the assault occurred. "Another celebrity stood by and watched as Combs and Carter took turns assaulting the minor. Many others were present at the afterparty, but did nothing to stop the assault," read the lawsuit according to the publication. Jay-Z responded with a statement on Sunday, dismissing the lawsuit as an attempt to extort money. He described Buzbee as a "fraud" and a "deplorable human" who exploits victims for personal gain. He vowed not to settle the case, promising to expose the lawyer in a "very public fashion." "You have made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all 'celebrities' are the same. "I'm not from your world. I'm a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We don't play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children, you seem to exploit people for personal gain. Only your network of conspiracy theorists ... will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable. I look forward to showing you just how different I am," read Carter's statement according to Billboard. The lawsuit is an updated version of an earlier case that initially named only Sean Combs. It comes amid a series of accusations against Combs, including a federal indictment in September alleging he ran a criminal operation to fulfill his "sexual gratification."  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner spend more time together

After Hollywood stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner seem to be getting closer as they continue to spend time together this holiday season.  The former couple, who share kids Violet, 19, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, were spotted out for a drive on Saturday morning, after Garner, 52, picked up some fresh bagels, reports ‘People’ magazine. The pair reportedly had breakfast together and then headed out for a drive through the Los Angeles neighborhood of Brentwood, before they went to Affleck's home. As per ‘People’, a source said earlier this week that Garner, who is dating businessman John Miller, has plans to celebrate the rest of the holidays with Affleck, also 52, and their kids after they asked to spend Thanksgiving together. The source told ‘People’, “Jen truly just wants her kids to be happy. She will continue to make sure that they spend time together as a family and include Ben. They have Christmas plans with the kids too. The kids enjoy when they all spend time together”. On Thanksgiving, the exes, who split in 2015 after nearly 10 years of marriage, before finalising their divorce three years later, spent the day together volunteering and serving free meals to the homeless community in L.A. as they attended The Midnight Mission's annual Thanksgiving Street Fair. Affleck and Garner were joined by their children, and a source said of the outing, “They truly enjoy giving back to their community and cherishing quality time together as a family”. Garner recently shared how she and the kids plan to celebrate during the holiday season, first sharing how they cook as a family for Thanksgiving. The actress said her kids are now at an age where they can each prepare their own dishes as part of the family's larger meal. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Brendan Fraser talks about his casting in 'The Whale'

Oscar winner actor Brendan Fraser shared the real reason behind filmmaker Darren Aronofsky casting him as Charlie in the 2022 psychological drama film 'The Whale', according to The Hollywood Reporter. During an informal conversation at the Red Sea Film Festival, he shared, "He was looking for an actor who hadn't been seen in a while. He told me. And that was me. He wanted to reintroduce that actor through a performance that would be transformative and have an element of this is the last person you might expect to do this role." And that was great with Fraser, who said that he was pleased with the "Brenaissance" memes to highlight one of Hollywood's most spectacular career comebacks. "Yes, look at me," he exclaimed from the stage of Old Town Al-Balad in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Fraser noted he prefers to consider his hiatus from Hollywood before his involvement in The Whale as a mid-career time off rather than a slump. "Taking a break is important in any line of work. In my career, it's been a trajectory that's been like a roller coaster loop. It's up, it's down, it's sideways. It's in the dark. It's thrilling," he added. Fraser insists he made good use of the downtime. "I used the time to have a retrospection to think from within, so I could do The Whale," he revealed, as per The Hollywood Reporter. That career break came after a rapid climb in Hollywood, which began with his starring part in 'Encino Man' in 1992. "To be recognized and noticed that early definitely allowed me to have access to other projects," Fraser said as agents, directors and producers suddenly noticed his rising star. Then, in 1997, he achieved his success with 'George of the Jungle,' which made him a Hollywood star in the real sense. "It was exciting, then. I didn't like the working out part, though. That hurt. I had to do that frequently," Fraser added. "What you think you're going to do, and what you create and what turns out are vastly different things. When that film came out, it had a broad international appeal and a lot of monkeys," he recalled. Success with 'The Whale' included a memorable world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, "It was my first time to Venice, and I had not seen the film in its entirety, fully locked down. I knew that the message behind it was either going to resonate and get people to really reevaluate the thing we think we really know when we judge the people we love, or it could be infinitely forgettable. And the stakes are often one or the other," said Frasier, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Red Sea Film Festival continues through December 14. Olivia Wilde: My biggest fear is flatlining as an artist and becoming lazy

Director, actress and producer Olivia Wilde, who has been part of 'Tron: Legacy' and 'Cowboys & Aliens', looked back at her career and opened up on the criteria of choosing projects while advising against equating art and acceptability, and asking for additional possibilities for women to work behind the camera, reported Deadline. While speaking at the Red Sea Film Festival, she said, "I still don't feel like I've made it. I think once you feel like you've made it, you've kind of lost. I think that you have to always be working towards some more authentic version of the art you want to create, and allow it to continue to be more ambitious, which doesn't mean bigger, probably just means courageous." Wilde, who started as an assistant casting director and moved into acting on such series as The O.C. and House, and has now been acting in films for 20 years, made her feature directing debut with 2019's Booksmart, following it up with 2022's Don't Worry Darling. She's next attached to direct Avengelyne, a feature adaptation of the 1990s comic book character, and Universal's Christmas comedy Naughty, both of which will be produced by Margot Robbie's LuckyChap. She'll also star in Gregg Araki's thriller I Want Your Sex, according to Deadline. Wilde shared that as an actress she "naturally gravitated towards roles that had a little bit of risk involved," due to which people are bringing her projects as an actor or director that "they know that I won't be afraid of, and I think part of that is being willing to not be accepted, being willing to not be celebrated by everyone, being willing to not be loved by everyone. I think a huge problem with our business, around the world I imagine it's the same, when you conflate filmmaking or acting with fame or with large scale acceptance, you immediately cut off every opportunity to do any risky work. And so I think that it was important to me to never become overly focused on being accepted or loved." "I'd rather be controversial than boring. You never want to make a movie as a director that people are like, 'eh, I don't know, I felt nothing.' I'd rather people hate it than feel nothing," she added while talking about addressing criticism. Wilde further said that she believes acting "is the only job where the more experience you have, the less valuable you become. Certainly for actresses... At a certain point, I realized I don't want to have my value deplete at the point where my wisdom and experience is at its apex. I want to be celebrated for my experience, as opposed to some sort of value based on something that is inherently fleeting." As a producer and as a director, she added, "The more you make, the longer you stick around, the more you survive a business that is incredibly cutthroat." When it comes to choose the projects, she shared that "more challenging than the last thing I've done, I feel bored otherwise. I think that my biggest fear is probably like flatlining as an artist and just becoming lazy." Wilde said that as a woman she feels, "If you're given the opportunity to make a movie, that's all you want is the chance to make the movie. You're so excited to be there. There's so little entitlement when you are a director from any sort of like a subcategory, marginalized part of the entertainment community, which is really everybody above white men. You are thrilled with the opportunity to be there. And I think that energy is limitless." On talking about the position of women in the industry, she said, "There's no shortage of talent, only shortage of opportunity. There aren't less women studying film. There's less women getting their movies made." She advocated for "the opportunity to help women not fit into the paradigm that has been created, but to shift the paradigm itself so that it allows for these new voices to actually get their movies made... I mean, movies directed by women don't make less money. It's not the audience's problem. It's the the financiers, it's the studios. They need to take what they perceive as a risk." She added that there is need to "raise women to believe that they are allowed to take up space. They are allowed to be leaders. It's difficult to run a production, and it's difficult for men, too, but as women, we're sort of told that we should, in many ways, just constantly apologize for our existence. And as a director, you can't do that... I think it's about success being connected to creating something that is true to the idea that you have an authentic extension of you, not about whether people approve of it," reported Deadline.
